FAQ’s

Have other questions? We would be happy to answer them, just send us an email at bbotupcycledclothing@gmail.com.

Where do you get your clothes from?

Clothes have been collected over the years from donations and from thrifting.

Are you accepting clothing or textile donations?

Not at the moment, but in the future we hope to collect very specific donations. That will only include upholstery fabrics for pouffes or sweaters and jeans to upcycle denim sleeve sweaters. If you have any of those things, send us an email, and we might be able to take it.

What do you do with the leftover fabric and scraps?

Anything salvageable is kept for future projects. Even the smallest scraps can create a cool patchy something or other. You never know what you’re going to use it for, but always happy you kept it. Borderline hoarder over here, but so far it’s been worth it. For the little scraps and stuff that can’t really be used, it’s thrown into a bag and will be used to stuff pouffes!

Do you do men’s clothing?

Yes! All of our sweaters are unisex.

I am in the US, will I have to pay customs fees?

Depends on what you buy, but it will be collected at check-out. Canada Post requires duties to be pre-paid to ship to the US. So, no surprise fees!

  • Pouffes ship duty-free to the U.S. under Canada-U.S. trade agreements.

  • Sweaters may have a small U.S. import duty (about 16–20%) that will be included in your checkout total.

I understand that the fast fashion industry is unsustainable, but it’s really all I can afford. How can I still dress sustainably?

You can still buy clothes from brands in the fast fashion stream. We know that “sustainable” clothing is often really expensive, it’s not accessible to everyone. We recommend no matter where you shop, be more intentional about the items you are buying, ask yourself some questions: will you be able to wear it with more than 3 other items in your wardrobe? Do you think you will wear it 30 times? Will it last 30 wears? Do I REALLY love this? If you answer “no” to any of those questions, don’t buy it. Find something that is a yes for all of them.

We also just really love thrift and consignment stores for a more wallet friendly place. Give those clothes another life! But, the same questions still apply, don’t just get a bunch of stuff you don’t REALLY want because it’s cheap.

Do you cut up the clothes when you stuff them in a pouffe?

I don’t, but you can. It take a lot of time, and I don’t think it’s necessary. It does make the pouffe a bit lumpy at first, but over time, the contents will settle and smooth out. You could also add a fluffy or soft layer to the top so it’s not uncomfortable to sit on. Things like old pillow stuffing or yarn scraps work well.

Upcycling looks like fun, how do I get started?

Search for upcycled clothing on YouTube, Instagram, and Pinterest. There are SO many ideas and creators out there doing some really cool things. Lots of them are specifically no sew projects, so if you don’t know how that’s totally fine.
